My dvd/cd rw drive sometimes won't read disk?

Every time i insert a cd into my laptop, I hear a bunch of clicking noise and it won't play the cd....After an hour of opening and closing the disk drive, it finally plays the cd. Is there something i can do to fix this myself so it will play my cd automatically, or should i just take it and get it fix by some computer techs?
