What was that horror movie?

This has been driving me crazy for many years, I remember seeing part of it on TV in the late 80's...there were little monsters or aliens that wore hooded sweatshirts and looked like messed-up children. I remember a scene where they killed a teacher with a hammer or something, and then two of them took one of the kids by the hand and were walking down the road...there was also a scene where these creatures were all together sleeping in bunk beds in some kind of cabin, and there was a human man there with them for some reason. He was whispering to someone but they heard him and all sat up in their beds at once...
