Why is God invisible?

if God is so powerful than why doesn't he just come to earth and be like, "Hey, how's my favorite bunch of smart chimps doing? Just thought I'd come let you know how to properly worship me and how to live your lives within the context of modern society so you can all get to heaven when you die. Oh and by the way, any one killing other people in my name automatically goes to hell so KNOCK IT OFF!"
